New Hampshire Listens created materials and even an instructional video for local leaders to co-host in 2012. Check out their materials and consider having your own conversation about the role of government and bridging political divides.
"We are living in a time of closely elections, increased ideological polarization, and dissatisfaction with politics. At the same time, people are often quite engaged locally in community organizations and local governance. Still, many of us have had negative experiences interacting with friends, neighbors, and colleagues whose political beliefs differ from our own. More than ever, it seems, we just don’t talk about it.
In light of this, NH Listens is supporting Leadership New Hampshire to initiate Living Room Conversations–Bridging Political Divides, an opportunity created for NH residents to invite people into their homes for conversations across political divides. The goal is not to change minds to your own positions, rather to support conversations that increase understanding, decrease the ways we demonize one another, and practice the democratic skills of talking with people across ideological differences."
